Joe Lozito, the UFC fan, one year later !

More than one year ago the USA found itself a new hero named Joe Lozito, a familly man, whom saw his life change in the twinkling of an eye in the the New-Yorker subway. At this time the story was reported by IKUSA.

More than one year later, we went to take news from Joe, who was hurt during the incident. He still has some scars from the confrontation and after-effect that he will battle for the rest of his life.

"Been ok considering. I'm very lucky to have a great wife and two amazing little boys in my corner. I have a great family and awesome friends in my corner. Pretty sure I'll be battling the after-effects of the incident the rest of my life, but that's just another battle. It beats the alternative!"

"I don't think I will ever be fully recovered. Physically, I still don't have 100% use of my left thumb. My scars give me pain almost daily and I still get headaches frequently. Psychologically, I suffer from anxiety and I don't trust as much as I used to."

According to Joe the policemen of New-York are responsible for his anxiety, they didn't do their job properly.

" I suffer more anxiety due to the fact that the police who were on the train looking for Maksim Gelman (the murderer) basically left me to fend for myself than from the actual attack!"

Even if he still struggles today, mentally and physically, Joe doesn't regret anything and would do exactly the same without a doubt.

" I absolutely would, no doubt. I think many in my position would have done the same thing. I really appreciate all the people who have called me a hero, but I honestly think I did what anyone else would have done."

Even one year after, Joe still doesn't consider himself as a hero, he keeps being humble despite all the praises. He is like before a familly man, even if things have changed... like his way to approach life.

" I don't take things for granted anymore. I stop and make sure to appreciate things because I now know firsthand that it can be taken away from you in an instant. On the negative side, I now know not to believe everything I see or read in the news. I now know not to trust people even if they are hired to serve & protect you. I know what pure evil looks like, smells like and know it always had bad intentions. I try not to dwell on the negative too much though, I have too much to live for to waste my energy on that aspect."

Not wasting time on the negative aspect, means benefits on the positive one, like the support received from the UFC president Dana White and his favorite fighter Keith Jardine.

"Dana White and the entire UFC organization has been a Godsend to myself & my family. Dana has sent my family thousands of dollars of merchandise, has given us tickets to any event we can make it to and most of all, has been there if I needed him. He is an amazing human being. Since this is an MMA interview, I will leave it to the MMA aspect-Dana White and Keith Jardine have helped me with my recovery more than they will ever fully understand. I could never repay them, but I would like to thank their parents for raising tremendous sons!"

Joe's life changed radically that weekend of february 2011. One year later, despite the scars he is able to work normally and take care of his wife and kids.

Joe Lozito, the story of a true hero, MMA is still illegal in the state of New-York though...
