Raphael Assuncao (pictured) fights Cory Sandhagen in a bantamweight bout at UFC 241 in Anaheim, California, on Aug. 17

One of the bantamweight division’s stalwart contenders is set to face one of its rising stars.

Fresh off of a submission loss to Marlon Moraes, Raphael Assuncao (27-6) will look to bounce back when he faces Cory Sandhagen (11-1) at UFC 241 on Aug. 17 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. MMA Fighting confirmed the bout with sources following an initial report by ESPN and Sandhagen announced the booking on Instagram.

Assuncao has been entrenched as a top contender at 135 pounds since dropping down to the weight class back in 2011. The 36-year-old Brazilian has won nine of his last 11 fights, including notable split decision wins over Moraes and T.J. Dillashaw (both of whom would later avenge those losses).

Sandhagen, 27, is perfect in four UFC appearances. He finished his first three opponents in the Octagon before winning a split decision against John Lineker at UFC Fort Lauderdale this past April, his sixth consecutive victory overall.
